SECTION 3: DISTRIBUTION
SECTION
3-1 INTRODUCTION
The JCI100 is designed for use in a
standard Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer UL Listed
distribution panelboard.
All electrical ratings and contents are per
customer specification and in accordance
with UL and NEC regulation. Panel ratings
are listed on the panel in accordance with
UL & NEC.
3-2 SMART BREAKER GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer Smart Breakers
(See Figure 3-2.1) are an innovative design
in branch circuit protection and circuit
control. Smart Breakers provide the
Thermo/Magnetic protection of a standard
circuit breaker with a remote controllable
switching function in one compact and cost
effective unit.
Smart Breakers comply with all applicable
standards and regulations including new
regulations such as the amendment to NEC
110-10, which regulates the series rating of
switching devices.
Smart Breakers are designed to fit into
Eaton’s Cutler-Hammer panelboards, and
can be retrofitted into existing panelboards.
Contact your Cutler-Hammer representative
for information on retrofitting panelboards
to use Smart Breakers.
The JCI100 is designed to control the 1”
Bolt-On BABR & BABRS 120/240V ac and
GHBS & GHQRS 277/480V ac Smart
Breaker. Each model of Smart Breaker
works in the same manner. However, there
are slight variations in operation. Those
variations are called out in each of the
proceeding SUBSECTIONS.
3-3 SMART BREAKER
OPERATION
Each Smart Breaker has two integrated
control mechanisms.
The first mechanism is a standard branch
circuit breaker, which operates as any
standard circuit breaker would and
provides the same thermo/magnetic
protection. The internal contact may be
manually closed and opened in the same
manner as a standard circuit breaker.
The second mechanism is the remotely
controllable switching device. The remotely
controllable switching device is controlled
by the JCI100. With the exception of the
GHBS, the remotely controllable switch
operates a second internal contact.
---NOTICE---
Power will only be present on the load
side terminal of the Smart Breaker
when both internal contacts are in the
“Closed” position.
