DIP Switch Settings
4.
Time
- The ramp time is adjustable from 1 to
40 seconds. The maximum setting is at the
full clockwise position. In the voltage-ramp
mode, this function ramps the motor voltage
up from an initial step to full line voltage. The
motor may come up to speed before the
voltage ramp is finished; this depends on the
application and the type of load on the motor.
The voltage ramp will continue until full motor
voltage is reached. This is called
END OF
RAMP
. (Factory setting of ÒTimeÓ is
approximately 20 secs.)
If the energy-saving switch is in the
OPEN
position, and if the motor is not fully loaded,
the motor voltage will then be reduced, while
still maintaining the motor rated slip speed.
The starter will now be running in the
ÒEnergy-SavingÓ mode.
If the energy-saving switch is in the
CLOSED
position, the motor voltage will remain at full
voltage and will be essentially running across
line.
In the current-ramp mode, this function ramps
the motor current up from an initial step to a
point where the current limit is set, or to the
point where break-away torque occurs. The
motor may come up to speed in a shorter
time period than the ramp ÒTimeÓ setting.
This depends on the type of load on the
motor. Whenever the motor comes up to
rated speed, the current will decrease from a
starting current to a running current. The
current ramp will automatically terminate and
the motor will either run in the energy-saving
mode or, across-line, depending on the
position of the energy-saving switch.
5.
Initial Step
- This adjustment sets the initial
voltage which is applied to the motor when
the start command is given. The maximum
setting is at the full clockwise position.
This adjustment should be set in conjunction
with the ÒTimeÓ adjustment. With the ÒTimeÓ
adjustment set to mid-range, and the ÒInitial
StepÓ set to minimum (CCW), start the motor
and check its response in your particular
application. If a higher initial voltage is
needed to start the motor turning quicker,
increase the ÒInitial Step.Ó
It may require several adjustments and
several motor starts in order to optimize the
ÒTimeÓ and ÒInitial StepÓ settings. A
combination of these adjustments is what
gives us a ÒSoft-Start.Ó
The “Initial Step” is factory set as follows:
Approximately 50% on initial voltage and
150% on initial current.
6.
Current Limit
- The current limit is
adjustable from 200 to 500% of the DIP
switch current setting.
The maximum setting is at the full clockwise
position. It can over-ride both initial step and
ramp time in the start mode.
This adjustment can control the available
starting torque.
It is also used to limit the inrush current on
the power lines, or generator, feeding the
starter.
It is also used to limit the locked rotor current,
in case of a stalled motor condition on start-
up.
The current limit adjustment should always
be set high enough to insure starting of the
motor under the worst case load conditions.
Notice
-
The
Cur Lim
is factory set to 450%.
