2.4 Ele c tri ca l s a fety to IEC 60-601
Precondition:
Zeus is s w itched o ff .
IEC 6 01/1 is a n intern a tion a l st a nd a rd f or type testin g o f m edic a l devices. It is not intended f or
repe a t m e a sure m ents. Most countries do not h a ve repe a t m e a sure m ents f or m edic a l devices a s
is the c a se in Ger ma ny ( V DE 0 7 51). There f ore section 18 (protective e a rth conductor test) a nd
section 19 (le akag e current test) o f the IEC 6 01/1 a re used.
S ince the co m plete electric a l s af ety tests a ccordin g to IEC 6 01/1 is very extensive a nd not
f e a sible in the f ield, this test instruction is a pplic a ble:
Protective e a rth conductor test,
Le akag e current tests in nor ma l m ode a nd w ith interrupted PEN conductor.
This corresponds to tests a ccordin g to V DE 0 7 51.
The le akag e current test w ith interrupted PE a nd the housin g le akag e current test a re not
a pplic a ble.

desi g n ch a n g es in the f ield, i f a ny, a re only c a rried out a ccordin g to a ppropri a te conversion
instructions.
2.4.1 Prote c ti v e e a rth c ondu c tor test
Connect the test probe to the f ollo w in g test points one af ter the other:
Ground stud on the ma ins input soc k et.
Ground studs on a uxili a ry soc k et-outlets.
PE cont a cts on a uxili a ry soc k et-outlets.
Enter the hi g her test v a lue in the test report.
The test to UL 26 01-1 is s a tis f ied by testin g to IEC 6 0- 6 01-1. Di ff erin g li m it v a lues a re ma r k ed.
Note re ga rdin g wa ll- m ounted a nd ceilin g - m ounted devices w ith per ma nently w ired po w er c a ble:
The protective conductor m e a sure m ent should be t ak en bet w een g rounded m et a l p a rts o f the
ceilin g pend a nt/ wa ll m ountin g a nd the Zeus.
Connect the test c a ble f or protective conductor cont a ct resist a nce 7 90088 2 to the tester. The
bl a c k conductor o f this test c a ble is w ired to the e a rthin g cont a cts o f the three-pin plu g .
Connect the bl a c k conductor o f the test c a ble to the m et a l p a rts o f the ceilin g pend a nt/ wa ll
m ountin g . Usin g the test probe o f the tester m e a sure the resist a nce to the m et a l p a rts o f the Zeus
listed a bove.
