Locks allow you to password-protect programming based on ratings or on a channel-by-
channel basis. When you have locked the receiver:
•
If you try to access a locked item or open the Locks menu, the receiver displays a
message asking you to enter the password.
•
The receiver permits three attempts to enter the correct password. If you fail to enter
the correct password, the receiver does not allow you to try again for several minutes.
•
If you enter the correct password, you can access the locked item or open the Locks
menu.
•
If you exit a locked item or close the Locks menu, you must enter the password to
access the item again.
•
If you want to enable the TV1 Out on the Modulator Setup screen (see page 98), you
must enter the password to continue.
•
When the receiver is in Single Mode, parental control locks for TV2 are not available.
When the receiver is in Dual Mode, any locks that are set for TV2 are available again.
See
Switching Between Dual and Single Mode
on
page 15.
Locks for programming on the nearby TV (TV1) are set using TV1 on-screen menus.
Locks for programming on the remote TVs (TV2) are set using TV2 on-screen menus.
Locks set for TV1 programming are separate from locks set for TV2 programming. The
information in this chapter applies to locks set by using either TV1’s or TV2’s menus.
Locking your receiver is a two-step process:
1
Create the parental-control locks that you want. Available types of locks are:
•
Ratings Locks—to lock programs based on their ratings.
•
Channel Locks—to lock channels, regardless of content.
•
Lock PPV—to prevent unauthorized Pay-Per-View or on demand ordering.
•
Hide Adult or Hide Locked—to hide adult channels or locked channels from being
displayed in the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) and other list screens.
•
Front Panel Lock—to prevent the receiver’s front-panel buttons from being used.
2
Lock the receiver itself. When the receiver is locked, anyone who wants to access locked
items must enter the password each time they do so.
When you unlock programming delivered through the

output to your in-home coaxial cabling system, you are allowing all the TVs
connected to your in-home system to have access to this programming. In this
case, you must rely on the V-Chip technology and control settings in the
individual TVs to prevent viewing of inappropriate programming on each TV.
Consult your TVs’ user guides for instructions to set up the V-Chip protection.
