computer system
A combination of system hardware, software, and external devices that
performs operations and tasks.
console mode
The state in which the computer is controlled from the console terminal.
Your system can be put in console mode by pressing the halt button on the
rear panel of the system unit. Console mode is indicated by the console
prompt

console prompt
A prompt used for communication between the system manager and the
computer.
controller
A system component, usually a printed circuit board, that regulates the
operation of one or more peripheral devices.
CPU
Abbreviation for central processing unit. See

daisy-chain
A group of systems linked together sequentially.
data
A formal representation of information suitable for communication,
interpretation, and processing by humans or computers.
data transmission
The movement of data in the form of electrical signals along a
communications line.
debug
To detect, locate, and correct errors (bugs) in hardware or software.
