7. On the Attach volumes page, use the options to change the volume name and size. Select the pool for the volume and add or delete
volumes. Click

NOTE:
Dell EMC recommended that you update the name with the hostname to better identify the volumes.
8. On the Summary page, review the changes, then click
Configure Host
.

VMware Volume rescan and datastore creation
Perform the following steps to rescan volumes and create datastores:
1. Log in to the VMware vCenter Server, then click the ESXi host that was configured in step 5 of
Attach SAS hosts to the storage
.
2. On the Configure tab, select
Storage > Storage Adapters
, then select the software iSCSI adapter HBA and click the
Rescan
option.
3. Click
OK
on the Rescan Storage dialog box.
After a successful rescan, the volumes that are displayed in the
Register the host and create and map volumes
4. Create VMware datastore file system on the volume presented from ME4 Series storage system.
a) On the Configure tab, select
Datastore
>
Create new datastore
(a cylinder with + sign).
b) Select
VMFS
as the type on New Datastore screen, then click
Next
.
c) Enter a name for new datastore, then select
right volume/Lun
, and click
Next
.
d) Select
VMFS6
as the VMFS version of datastore, then click
OK
.
e) On the Partition configuration page, select the default value that is shown, then click
Next
.
f) Click
Finish
to complete the creation of the new datastore.
SAS host server configuration for VMware ESXi

Install the required version of the ESXi operating system and configure it on the host.
Attach SAS hosts to the storage system
Perform the following steps to attach a SAS host to the storage system:
1. Ensure that all HBAs have the latest supported firmware and drivers as described on the Dell Support portal. For a list of supported
standard SAS HBAs, see the
Dell EMC ME4 Support Matrix
on the Dell website. For OEMs, contact your hardware provider.
2. Use the SAS cabling diagrams to cable the host servers either by using switches or attaching them directly to the storage system.
3. Log in to the VMware vCenter Server and add the newly configured ESXi host to the Datacenter.
4. On the Configure tab, select
Storage
>
Storage Adapters
.
5. Verify that the required SAS storage adapters are listed, then record the HBA WWNs as listed under Properties.
