iSCSI host server configuration for VMware ESXi
The following sections describe how to configure iSCSI host servers running VMware ESXi:
Prerequisites
•
Complete the ME Storage Manager guided system and storage setup process.
•
Refer to the cabling diagrams within this guide before attaching a host to the storage system; careful planning ensures a successful
deployment.
•
Install the required version of the VMware ESXi operating system and configure it on the host.
•
Complete a planning worksheet with the iSCSI network IP addresses to be used, per the example in the following table.

Attach hosts to the storage system
Perform the following steps to attach a host to the storage system:
1. Ensure that all network adapters have the latest supported firmware and drivers as described on the Dell Support portal.
NOTE:
The Dell EMC PowerVault ME4 Series storage system supports only software iSCSI adapters.
2. Use the iSCSI cabling diagrams to cable the host servers either by using switches or attaching them directly to the storage system
using one-to-one mode. Record the two different IP address ranges for each storage system controller. For example: 172.2.15.x,
172.3.20.x .
3. If the host servers are connected to the storage system by iSCSI switches, configure the switches to use two different IP address
ranges/subnets.
