6 CONFIGURATION & CONTROL OF THE AC
SUPERDRIVE
6.1 I
NTRODUCTION
An overview of the AC SuperDrive control is shown in Figure 20 , where the software blocks are
non-filled and the hardware blocks are shaded gray.

The functionality of the AC SuperDrive comes largely from its resident operating software, which
controls nearly every aspect of its operation. The AC SuperDrives have no potentiometer or
jumpers for setup or adjustments. Parameters and variables passed to the operating software
perform these functions and characterize the drive’s behavior. Parameters also define key
characteristics of the controlled motor and define the operating envelope of the motor/drive
combination.
A step in each new design is to establish the parameter values for the motor/drive in its
application. This section presents guidelines and procedures for establishing parameter values.
The parameter values established are thereafter normally used as default values in shipped AC
SuperDrives. The exceptions are the following:

The truck controller (or other device) downloads (via SDO(s)) parameter values that depend
on the truck configuration chosen in for example production and/or in the field (for example
performance modes). In order to retain a configuration, the parameters have to be stored in
the AC SuperDrive’s non-volatile memory (EEPROM). Thereafter the configuration is not
changed until another configuration is downloaded and stored in the same manner.
