2. The Apex PDT IR port functions like a two wire virtual
RS-232 cable that has transmit and receive signals only and
which can only operate in the half-duplex mode.
3. Supported baud rates for IR communication are 300, 600,
1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, and 115200.
4. The Dock is connected to the PC serial port using cable
PN 0227001 which can be purchased from Compsee, Inc. –
refer to the Parts section of the Apex PDT User’s Manual.
5. If communications have previously been established using
the Dock/IR port and the baud rate is to be changed, the
Apex III PDT should be removed from the Dock and re-
inserted to reset the IR transceiver circuitry. The baud rate
can be changed as required.
Serial Communications
Serial communications are conducted in the same manner whether
using the optional Serial End Cap or the internal RS-232 Serial
Port. The Serial End Cap is available from Compsee, Inc. as an
option (PN C0AA3SEC01
– refer to the Parts section of the Apex
PDT User’s Manual for additional information).
Serial communications conducted using the optional Serial End Cap
or IR communications with the Dock require a cable with a DB9
(standard PC) serial connector on one end and a 10-pin phone type
connector on the other (Compsee, Inc. PN 0227001).
Use of the internal RS-232 Serial Port requires the manufacturing of
a cable with a DB9 (standard PC) serial connector on one end and a
female 8-pin Molex connector on the other (cable not supplied by
Compsee, Inc.). Refer to Pinouts in the Hardware Configuration
Section of this manual for specific connector details if using this
method.
