Interlock System
The Compaq ProLiant 5500 server interlock system prevents power distribution
throughout the system if the memory board, processors, or peripheral board
(including the power switch cable) are not fully installed or properly seated.
The ProLiant 5500 server is not equipped with chassis interlocks; the board
interlocks provided connect the memory board, processors, and peripheral
board (including the power switch cable) in one interlock chain. When one of
the connected components in the interlock chain is improperly seated in the
connector, the LED associated with the fault origination point will illuminate.
See Chapter 1 for details regarding the interlock error.
WARNING:
Care must be exercised when the hood or side
covers are removed because the system does not shut down
automatically.
Accessing the Drive Cage Back Plane
These instructions cover the removal of the simplex drive cage and the
installation of the Duplex drive cage. This procedure enables controller
duplexing of the internal SCSI drives. Refer to the Chapter 7 for more
information on configuring duplex and simplex modes.
1. Remove the side cover as shown in Figure 4-1.
2. Remove the fans and all cables to the fans.
CAUTION:
Never power up the server if the fans have been
removed from either the processor or I/O section. Overheating
and damage to hardware could result.
