3.5 Communications
The ONS 15216 EDFA2 can communicate in the following ways:
•
Alarm Out relay contacts (RJ-45)
•
Alarm LEDs
•
Serial interface (EIA/TIA-232)
•
Serial interface connected to a modem
•
LAN interface (RJ-45)
3.5.1 Alarm Out Relay Interface (RJ-45)
The ONS 15216 EDFA2 Alarm Out (RJ-45) port reports alarm status for the following:
•
Loss or degradation of electrical power
•
Laser pump overheating or excessive pump current, output power, gain, and case temperature
•
Loss or degradation of optical network
These alarms can be connected to a network operations center (NOC) network management system
(NMS) using the following methods:
•
Cisco ONS 15454 miscellaneous discrete input
•
Central Office alarm panel/system

3.5.1.1 Alarm Relay Connection Procedure
To set up alarm contacts, follow these steps:
Step 1
Connect the RJ-45 to the stub-end cable using a #22 AWG solid wire.
