P ro p er  g ro u n d   at  all  c o m p o n e n t s   P ro p er  ro u tin g   o f  hoses.

Step  1

 

Inoperative  Idle  Stop

 

Solenoid

1.  C h eck   for  free  m o v em en t  o f 

plunger.

2.  C h eck   fo r  in co rrectly   a d ­

ju ste d   plun ger  (o u t  to o   far).

3.  W ith   ignition  off-solenoid 

sh o u ld   de-energize.

4.  If  s o l e n o i d   de-energizes 

p ro ce e d   to   S tep   2.

Step  2

Inoperative  C E C   Solenoid

1.  C heck  for  free  m o v e m e n t  o f 

plunger.

2.  C heck  for  in c o rrectly   a d ­

ju sted   plunger.

3.  R e m o v e   c o n n e c t o r   from  

solenoid  and  a p p ly   12  volts 

across  term inals.  If  solenoid 

does  not  energize  it  is  d e fe c ­

tive.

4.  T urn  ignition  o n   an d   rem o ve 

black  lead  fro m   c o n n e c to r, 

solenoid  sh o u ld   de-energize.

5.  If  solenoid  was  no t  at  fault 

proceed  to  S tep   3.

Step  3

 

Inoperative  Tim e  Relay

1.  R em o v e   te m p e ra tu re   sw itch 

c o n n e c to r.

2.  C h eck   relay  to   m a k e   sure 

that  it  is  cool,  th e n   turn  igni­

tion  on.

3.  S o le n o id   sh o u ld   energize  for 

2 0   second s  an d   then  d e ­

energize.  If  it  d o es  not  d e ­

energize,  rem o ve  blue  lead 

from   tim e  relay.  S o len o id  

will  de-energize  if  relay  is  at 

fault.  P ro ceed   to   S te p   4  if 

relay  is  n o t  at  fault.

Step  4

Inoperative  Transmission  Switch

1.  Start  engine  an d   pu t  tran s­

m ission  in  reverse  on   H ydra- 

m atic  or  high  o n   m an u als

2.  W hen  tran sm issio n   is  placed 

in  po sitio n   re q u ire d   for  test, 

th e   C EC   S o le n o id   sh o u ld  

energize.  If  it  d o e s  no t  e n e r­

gize,  rem ove  c o n n e c to r  at 

sw itch  an d   g ro u n d   the  te r­

m inal  if  so le n o id   energizes 

the  sw itch  is  faulty.

3.  If  the  sw itch  is  n o t  at  fault 

p ro ce e d   to  S tep   5.

M a lfun ction

1.  C old  e n g i n e - T u r n   th e   igni­

tion  sw itch   on.  If  th e   C E C  

S o le n o id   plun ger  does  no t 

energize  o r  if it  energizes  an d  

retracts  a fter  20  sec o n d s, 

rem o ve  the  sw itch   c o n n e c to r 

a nd  g ro u n d   the  cold  term jn al 

lead.  T his  will  activ ate  the 

s olenoid  plun ger,  in d icatin g  

a  defective  sw itch.

2.  W arm   engine-  A llo w   te m p e r ­

a tu re  sw itch   to   c ool.  T h e n  

w ith  th e   w ires  c o n n e c te d  

a nd  sw itch  g ro u n d e d ,  th e  

solenoid  s h o u ld   energize  a n d  

rem ain  energized.  If  it  does 

not  th e   sw itch   is  defective.
