4. Repair/Adjustment Procedures

 

ADJ 4.6 Accuracy Adjustment 

The accuracy adjustment procedure follows. 

Initial Actions 

The CMT must be cutting square before accu-
racy adjustment.  See ADJ 4.7 Squaring Adjust-
ment. 

Figure 4-14 shows the accuracy adjustment 
screen.  The accuracy will be adjusted by 
changing the values in the following positions: 
Width (W), Height (H), and Trim (T). 

Procedure 

1.  Switch on the machine and press the green 

start button to initialize.

If the width (W) dimension is not 6.000” 
(152.4 mm), enter 6.000 (152.4 mm) into the 
width (W) dimension.  Press the Send key. 

6.  The right side registration unit will preset 

and move to a set location.  The conveyor 
belts will start.  Place a book larger than 
10”x7” (254x178 mm) into the CMT 130 to 
be trimmed.  Only the face (fore-edge) will 
be trimmed. 

7.  Measure the width (W) from the spine to the 

face (fore-edge) after the book has been 
trimmed.  Use a high resolution instrument 
such as Vernier calipers.  Enter the meas-
ured value into the width (W) dimension on 
the Accuracy Adj screen.  (Typical values 
are 5.900 [149.1] to 6.100 [155.0].) 

8.  Press the Send key.  The right side registra-

tion unit will preset and move to a set loca-
tion.  The conveyor belts will start.  Place a 
book into the CMT 130 to be trimmed.  Only 
the top edge (head) and bottom-edge (foot) 
will be trimmed. 

9.  After the book height (top-edge to bottom-

edge) has been trimmed, measure the 
height (H) with a precision instrument.  Enter 
the measured value into the height (H) di-
mension on the Accuracy Adj screen.  (Typi-
cal values are 8.900 [226.1] to 9.100 
[231.1]). 

10.  Press the send key.  The right side registra-

tion unit will preset and move to a set loca-
tion.  The conveyor belts will start.  Empty 
the waste bin.  Place a book in the CMT 130 
to be trimmed.  Only the top-edge (head) 
and bottom edge (foot) will be trimmed. 

11.  Save the bottom-edge, waste trim piece 

from step 8.  Measure its width (T) using a 
precision instrument.  Enter the measured 

value into the trim (T) dimension on the Ac-
curacy Adj screen.  (Typical values are 
0.550 [14.0] to 0.650 [16.5].) 

12.  Return to the Run screen and trim a test 

book.  Measure the book and side trim.  
Does the book and trim measure as ex-
pected? 

Y  N 

Repeat steps 1 through 12. 

13.  The accuracy is now set.  Record the new 

accuracy adjust values on the inside of the 
power panel cover and in the Operator’s 
Manual.
