GP 6.9 Proximity Sensors
This procedure describes how to properly adjust
all metal sensing, proximity switches within the
CMT 130 and its accessory equipment.
Metal sensing proximity switches are actuated
by a metal object changing the magnetic field in
front of the sensing surface. All metal sensing
proximity switches in the CMT 130 must be ad-
justed to within 0.01" (0.25 mm) of their actua-
tors.
There are three types of metal sensing, proxim-
ity switches used. A small, rectangular proximity
senses at close distances very consistently. A
large, rectangular proximity senses at further
distances but less consistently. The larger, cy-
lindrical proximities sense over greater distances
and are used when consistency is less critical.
Figure 6-9. Metal Sensing Proximities
Procedure
1. Switch off the machine.
2. Clean any debris from the actuator and
switch.
3. Inspect the switch for physical damage. Re-
place switches with cracked housings.
4. Loosen the mounting hardware and un-
mount the switch. Rectangular proximities
are mounted on adjustable brackets. Cylin-
drical proximities are mounted through holes
and held in place with two nuts.
5. Switch on the machine and enter sensor
data mode. Actuate the sensor by waving it
across metal (within 0.01"). If the switch
and main PWB are working correctly, the
LED on the sensor changes states, and an
audible tone is emitted from the main PWB.
Does the sensor change states when actu-
ated?
Y N
a. Disconnect and lock out main power to
the machine.
b. Replace the sensor.
6. Switch off the machine.
7. Mount the sensor and place a 0.01" (0.25
mm) feeler gauge between the sensing sur-
face and the actuator.
8. Move the sensing surface to touch the feeler
gauge.
9. Tighten the mounting hardware and remove
the feeler gauge.
