CMT 130 Book Trimmer 

REP 4.3 Knife Depth Adjustment 

The knife depth requires adjustment after every 
knife change.  The knife depth can also be ad-
justed if the knife is not fully cutting through 
books. 

WARNING 

Knife adjustment is a ONE PERSON OPERA-
TION!  More than one person adjusting the 
knife creates safety hazards. 

Initial Actions 

Locate a few 

½” (13mm) thick scrap or extra 

books.  No tools are needed. 

Procedure 

1.  At the console, enter maintenance mode 

and choose Knife Adjust. 

2.  Locate the knife adjustment knob at the left 

rear of the machine (Figure 4-9). 

3.  Was the knife just replaced? 

Y  N 

Raise the knife depth slightly by turning the 
knife adjustment knob clockwise approxi-
mately three full revolutions. Proceed to step 
5. 

4.  Make sure the knife adjustment knob is 

turned all the way clockwise until it cannot 
turn clockwise any further. 

5.  Move the waste bin aside and open the rear 

door. 

6.  Place the face side (side opposite the spine) 

of a scrap book underneath the knife with 
the spine facing the inside of the machine. 

7.  Securely close the rear door. 

8.  Press and hold the remote cut button (Fig-

ure 4-9).  The hydraulic motor will turn on, 

and in about 1 second, the cutting mecha-
nism will perform a cut cycle. 

9.  Open the rear door and check the book.  If 

the bottom cover of the book is not fully cut 
through, set the knife depth deeper by turn-
ing the knife adjustment knob 1/4 revolution 
counterclockwise.   

10.  Repeat steps 6 through 9 until the bottom 

cover is cut fully, but the knife does not cut 
too deep into the cut stick.
