1. Introduction
This document explains in a visual format the handling tasks needed to remove the
n_TOF beam pipe equipment to gain access to the target area and the tasks needed to
remove and dismantle Target 2 itself.
In this document, “handling” covers any tasks
where human or remote intervention is needed in the area.
The initial removal process laid out in this document is based upon the n_TOF EAR2
beam line installation procedure document (EDMS: 1302710).
The first version of the document illustrated the tasks without specifying how they will
be carried out; however, the format of the document was designed to allow more
information to be easily added as the necessary procedures were and will continue to
be developed.
The majority of these tasks will be carried out manually or ‘hands - on’. Remote handling
will be used for all the tasks related to the handling of the target to optimize the dose
to personnel.
