Comments:
Small and big pipes have to go into two separate
containers because they may have different
contamination.
It has been agreed that remote handling will
be required for this task.
Pipes extend ~2.3m above target frame. The
container will be the ‘Bac 1 m3’ (described in EDMS
1723932), internal size 1150x950x610 mm.
Small and big pipes are joined at certain points by a
steel plate. The cuts cannot be made in those places.
The first cut will be made 80 cm (±20 cm) from the
top of the pipes.
The second cut will be made as close as possible to
the top of the target.
The advantage of this is that in both fragments of cut
pipe, moderating and cooling pipes will be joined
together. This minimizes the risk of loose fragments
of pipe falling.
The second fragment of pipe will be cut in half later
(once the target is out of the Technical Gallery) so
that it fits inside the container.
Procedure:

Target will be lifted so that the bottom of
the pipes are level with the technical
gallery’s floor.

Teodor will then grasp the pipes whilst
CERNbot (or similar) cuts them.

The monorail will then rotate the target
and the process will be repeated.
The cut sections of pipe will simply be placed on the
floor. Once the target is out of the Technical Gallery,
they will be placed inside containers (task 540).
A test of this procedure must be performed.
