6.2 MDI Block Input
6.2.1 MDI Editor
The MDI editor (MDI = Manual Data Input) is used to transfer one or more NC
blocks to the NC and to process them by pressing the "Start" button.
MDI operation requires the prerequisites (interlocks) to be fulfilled
in the PLC program. Operating mode "MDI" and NC status "inac‐
tive" are required.

CPL elements, jumps and retrievals of subroutines with parameters
are not permitted in manual data input (MDI) blocks because "link‐
ing" is not supported before the manual data input block is execu‐
ted. However, it is possible to retrieve a subroutine locally.
In the standard model, a separate complete NC screen in which the focus is
already on window "MDI block input", and thus the MDI editor, is opened when
operating mode "MDI" is activated.
The transfer of an NC block from an MDI editor to the NC (<F4> "Transfer MDI
block") and <F2> "Reset channel" are protected by User management.
The MDI editor can process up to 100 NC blocks. If the number of lines exceeds
the number that can be displayed in the MDI editor, a scroll bar appears for
orientation. The number of blocks in the MDI editor is checked during pasting
from the clipboard and when <F4> "Apply MDI block" is pressed. If the number
of NC blocks exceeds 100, a note is displayed in the status line during pasting
from the clipboard (<Ctrl>+"V"); when <F4> is pressed, a message window with
the number of permitted and existing blocks appears.
The MDI editor can adopt two different states:

Editing permitted:
light blue background; this permits all ordinary keyboard shortcuts of ed‐
itors (<Ctrl>+<C>, <Ctrl>+<V>, <Ctrl>+<X> etc.). The control has a status
of "inactive".
● Editing is not permitted:
gray background. The control has a status of "Ready", "Running", "Stop‐
ped" or there is an error.
