CAUTION: This coach is equipped with a side mounted 60 gallon fuel tank. Use caution when filling
with a high delivery nozzle to prevent spillage. USE UNLEADED FUEL ONLY
WARNING: FUEL SPRAY MAY CAUSE INJURY, REMOVE CAP SLOWLY. Do not fill more than 95% of
liquid capacity.
GASOLINES FOR CLEANER AIR
Your use of gasoline with detergent additives will help prevent deposits from forming in your engine and
fuel system. That helps keep your engine in tune and your emission control system working properly. It’s
good for your vehicle, and you’ll be doing your part for cleaner air.
Many gasolines are now blended with materials called oxygenates. Blue Bird recommends that you use
gasolines with these blending materials, such as MTBE and ethanol. By doing so, you can help clean the air,
especially in those parts of the country that have high carbon monoxide levels.
In addition, some gasoline suppliers are now producing reformulated gasolines. These gasolines are spe-
cially designed to reduce vehicle emissions. Blue Bird recommends that you use reformulated gasoline. By
doing so, you can help clean the air, especially in those parts of the country that have high ozone levels.
Ask your service station operators if their gasolines contain detergents and oxygenates and if they have
been reformulated to reduce vehicles’ emissions.
FUELS IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES
If you plan on driving in another country outside the U.S. or Canada, unleaded gasoline may be hard to
find. Do not use leaded gasoline. Even one tankful will seriously degrade your emission controls. With con-
tinuous use, spark plugs can get fouled, the exhaust system can corrode, the engine oil can deteriorate quickly
and the vehicle’s oxygen sensor will be damaged. All of that means costly repairs that wouldn’t be covered by
warranty.
To check on fuel availability, ask an auto club or contact a major oil company that does business in the
country where you’ll be driving.
RECOMMENDED LUBRICANT
CAUTION: Do not mix petroleum based and synthetic lubricants or different brands of synthetic lubri-
cants due to possible incompatibility. In addition there may be increased lubricant change intervals rec-
ommended for synthetic lubricants. Consult manufacturers label for lubricant requirements.
1. Manual Transmission - Refer to Spicer Transmission Service Manual.
2. Automatic Transmission - Refer to Allison Automatic Transmission Driver’s Handbook.
3. Rear Axle - Refer to Dana Maintenance Manual.
4. Hydraulic Power Steering Pump - Dexron (TCFE), 10W30 (TCRE).
NOTE:
For engine oil lubricant, follow engine manufacturer’s recommendations for SAE grades.
COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS
INTRODUCTION
The compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel system consist of DOT certified storage tanks that store CNG at
up to 3600 psi that replace the fuel tank, a structure to hold and protect the tanks, metallic fuel lines to deliver
the fuel, high and low pressure regulators to reduce the pressure entering the throttle body, a fuel shut-off
solenoid and the throttle body which delivers the CNG/air mixture to the engine. The regulator includes an
integral heater to preheat the CNG for anti-icing control.
