USE
Charging the unit
This unit is shipped in a partially charged state.
• Charge the unit before first use using the mains
charging adapter for 40 hours.
Lead-acid batteries require routine maintenance
to ensure a full charge and a long battery life. All
batteries lose energy from self-discharge over time
and more rapidly at higher temperatures. When the
unit is not in use, Black & Decker recommend that
the battery is charged at least every 30 days.
• Check the battery charge level by pressing the
battery status pushbutton. The LED charge status
display will indicate the level of battery charge.
When only one red LED lights, charge the unit.
•
Make sure all other unit functions are turned off
during recharging, as this can slow the recharging
process.
Note:
Charging the battery after each use will prolong the
battery life; frequent heavy discharges between charges
and/or overcharging will reduce battery life.
Important!
When the battery is overly discharged
and if the green LED is lit when the charger is
plugged in, this indicates the battery is at a high
impedance stage. In this event, recharge the unit
and leave the unit charging for a period of 24-48
hours before use.
CHARGING THE UNIT USING THE MAINS
CHARGING ADAPTER
•
Insert the jack of the appropriate mains charging
adapter (either the EU model or the GB model)
into the 12V ac/dc charging socket on the back of
the unit.
•
Insert the appropriate mains charging adapter plug
into a mains power socket.
•
Charge until two red and one green (full) battery
status LEDs light or flash.
•
Continue to charge for one to two more hours.
•
Once fully charged disconnect the AC charging
adapter from the mains power socket and then
remove the jack plug of AC charging adapter from
the 12V AC/DC charging socket on the back of
the unit. Store it in a safe place.
CHARGING THE UNIT USING THE
12VDC CHARGING ADAPTER (OPTIONAL
ACCESSORY)
Charging the unit from an external 12 volt dc power
source requires the use of the 12 Vdc charging
adapter. This adapter has a male dc connector at
each end.
•
Insert the gold-tipped plug of the 12 Vdc charging
adapter into the accessory socket socket of your
vehicle or other 12 Vdc power source.
•
Insert the silver-tipped plug into the 12Vdc
accessory socket on the front panel of the unit.
•
Charge the unit until the green (full) battery status
LED lights when the battery power level button is
pressed (AFTER unplugging the adapter from the
unit).
•
When charging is complete, disconnect the 12
Vdc charging adapter and store it in a safe place.
Note:
Some vehicles require that the ignition be switched to
the accessory socket position in order to power the
accessory socket.
Caution! To reduce the risk of property
damage:
• Recharge using this method only when necessary.
Frequent use the the 12 volt DC charging method
may shorten battery life.
• Do not charge for longer than 6 hours maximum
using this method and do not leave the unit
unattended when charging using this method.
Using the unit as a jump-starter
Warning!
Make sure that the vehicle is in neutral
with the parking brake applied.
Note:
If your connections are incorrectly made, the unit will
beep continuously and the red reverse polarity indicator
will illuminate, even if the on/off switch is in the off
position. Rectify the connections immediately.
Warning!
Make sure that the cables are not in the
path of moving belts or the fan.
1. Turn off the vehicles ignition and all
accessories before making any connections.
2. Make sure that the jump-starter on/off switch
is turned off.
3. The following procedure is for a negative earth
system ie the negative battery terminal is
connected to the chassis.
4. Connect the positive (+) red clamp to the
vehicle’s positive battery terminal.
5. Connect the negative (–) black clamp to
chassis or a solid, non-moving, metal vehicle
component or chassis part. Never clamp
directly to negative battery terminal or moving
part. Refer to the automobile owner’s manual.
6. Turn the jump-starter on/off switch to the on
position.
7. Start the vehicle and crank the engine in 3 to
6 second bursts.
Important!
If the engine doesn’t start within 6
seconds let the units internal battery cool for 3
minutes before making another attempt.
8. When the vehicle starts, turn the jump-starter
off/on switch to the off position.
9. Leave the vehicle’s engine running.
10. Disconnect the (–) black lamp connected to
the engine or chassis first, followed by the (+)
red clamp that is connected to the battery
positive (+) terminal.
11. Carefully press the negative (black) jumper
cable wire into the storage channel starting at
the end furthest from the clamp.
12. Clamp the negative (black) clamp onto the
clamp holder.
13. Carefully press the positive (red) jumper cable
wire into the storage channel starting at the
end furthest from the clamp.
14. Clamp the positive (red) clamp onto the clamp
holder.
15. Charge the unit as soon as possible.
16. Make sure that the LED area light is turned off
while the unit is being charged or stored.
Using the pivoting LED area light
The pivoting area light is controlled by the area light
power switch on top of the light. Make sure the area
light is turned off when the unit is being recharged
or stored.
Using the compressor
Warning!
When using the compressor:
• Do not use the compressor when the charger is
connected to the mains.
• Do not direct the nozzle at animals or bystanders.
• Never leave the compressor unattended when
running.
• Only use the adapters supplied.
• Should the unit run over an extended period of
time it may overheat and cause the thermal trip to
activate. When this occurs switch the compressor
off and allow to cool for 30 minutes.
• Keep the compressor stored out of reach of small
children.
• The gauge is intended as a guide only. Tyre
pressures should be regularly checked with a
certified gauge.
• Do not over inflate any object as this may cause a
risk of injury.
This compressor can be used to inflate car
tyres and sports equipment.
• Remove the compressor hose from the storage
compartment.
• If an adapter is required, choose the correct
adapter for the product you are inflating and fit it
into the nozzle.
• Fit the nozzle of the compressor or the adapter, if
fitted, to the valve of the item to be inflated. Make
sure that the nozzle is locked in place.
• Move the compressor switch to the on position.
• Monitor the pressure gauge until the required
pressure is reached.
• Move the compressor switch to the off position.
• Remove the adapter, if fitted, or the nozzle from
the inflated item.
• Remove the adapter, if fitted, and store it in the
compressor nozzle storage compartment.
Using the 230 Volt Mains ac socket
• Press the inverter power switch to turn the inverter
on. The inverter power indicator will light red to
indicate the 230 volt AC outlet is ready to use.
• Simply plug the 230 volt ac appliance into the
unit’s mains ac socket and operate normally.
• Periodically check the unit’s battery status by
pressing the battery power level button. Two red
and one green battery status indicators will light to
indicate a full battery. If only one red battery status
indicator lights it indicates that the unit needs to
be recharged.
Notes:
The unit’s mains ac socket may not operate appliances
and equipment that generate heat, such as hair dryers,
electric blankets, microwave ovens and toasters.
IMPORTANT:
The standard 230 volt ac and USB
sockets allow simultaneous operation of multiple
devices. Ensure that the wattage of all equipment
simultaneously plugged into the USB and 230 volt
ac sockets does not exceed 200 watts continuous.
Using the USB socket
1. Push the USB power button to turn the USB
port on. The USB power indicator will light.
2. Lift up the cover of the USB socket.
3. Plug the USB-powered device into the USB
socket and operate normally.
Notes:
This unit’s USB socket does not support data
communication. It only provides 5 volts/500mA DC power
to an external USB-powered device.
Make sure the USB power button is in the off position
when the unit is being recharged or stored.
Some household USB-powered electronics will not
operate with this unit.
Using the 12 volt dc power socket
This portable power source is also for use with
all 12 volt dc accessories equipped with a male
accessory socket plug and are rated up to
5 amps.
1. Lift up the cover of the unit ‘s 12 Vdc socket.
