2. Configuring the Terminal Server

Overview

This chapter contains information on system configuration and maintenance. Avaya field personnel
initially configure and test your system. The information in this chapter allows organizations with
qualified staff to supplement field service and tech support arrangements.

Configuring the Network

Caution:

Avaya strongly recommends that system configuration changes be made only by qualified
service personnel. If necessary, consult with Avaya technical support or field service
engineering.

Caution:

MPS system cards are designed to work on Ethernet links with Auto-Negotiation enabled, IEEE
802.3-2005 Section 28. Forcing the link to anything except 10 Meg half-duplex may result in
duplex mismatch which will cause loss of packets under load.

Configuring Network IP Addresses

The devices in an MPS 500 system obtain their software images through a process known as bootp
from a file called /etc/bootptab.
