5.0 Update storage and firmware
You can update the ATTO FastStream VT at any time. Refer to
www.attotech.com
for complete
information.
Several methods are available to update the
ATTO FastStream firmware and to re-initialize
unattached storage. Be sure all data is backed up
before using any of these procedures to prevent
data loss.
Clean RAID configuration information
This feature only works with drives that belong
to RAID groups and drives that had once been
part of a RAID Group and are now flagged
Replaced
.
CAUTION
CAUTION
Data is erased during this process. Back
up your data before selecting Commit.
These operations have a negative impact
on the performance of normal operations;
all activity should be stopped.

If you are not already in the ExpressNAV
interface, type the IP address of your appliance,
as found in
Use the ExpressNAV interface

page 27, in a standard browser, click

Click on the drive you wish to process; the drive
is highlighted.

Note
To clean Hot Spare information from a drive,
use the
Add/Delete Hot Spares
feature to
delete the Hot Spare. Refer to
Use Hot
Spares
on page 11.
Update firmware
The ATTO FastStream VT has several processors
which control the flow of data. The firmware to
control these processors can be upgraded in the
field using the
PUT
command from an FTP
connection or the zModem utility over an RS-232
serial connection.
CAUTION
CAUTION
Ensure that all I/O to the ATTO FastStream
VT has stopped.
During this procedure
, do not
interrupt the
flash process. Do not power down the host
or the ATTO FastStream VT until the
display returns the Ready prompt.
Interrupting the flash process makes your
ATTO FastStream VT inoperable and you
must return it to ATTO for repair.
Preliminary steps

The ATTO FastStream VT firmware is
distributed as a compressed .zip file.
Uncompress the
.zip
file into an image file
(
.ima
). Note the filename. The
.zip
file can be
uncompressed using any utility that supports
the
zip
format.

Decide whether to use FTP over Ethernet or a
terminal program using the RS-232 serial link,
