Setting Up for Operation

Important

Before performing the steps in this section, follow
all the instructions under “Preparing the Work Site”
and “Inspecting Before Startup” on page 63.

Setting up the machine for operation involves the steps 
listed below, which are described in further detail in this 
section.

To set up the machine for operation 
(overview):

•

Unroll the debris curtain

•

Position the folding ladder.

•

Connect the water sprinkler to a source.

•

Set pressure for the IRS air bags.

Unrolling the Debris Curtain

WARNING

Personal injury hazard. 

The debris curtain is heavy. Do not stand under
the curtain when rolling or unrolling the debris
curtain. At least two people are required to han-
dle the debris curtain. 

The debris curtain is an important safety feature. It is 
installed to stop flying objects or thrown material that 
can be ejected from the rotor when the compression roll 
lifts or is in float mode. 

For most operations, be sure to leave the debris curtain 
installed. Use at least two people to unroll it before 
operating the machine.

In specific operations, such as land clearing, the feed 
material may be longer than the hopper. For these oper-
ations, the debris curtain assembly may be removed. 
However, be sure to position the machine so that any 
objects throw out of the hopper land in a safe area. See 
the description of “Area 5” on page 55 and page 55.

For transport, roll and tie or strap the curtain to prevent 
wind drag or damage (Figure 68).
