PERATING
THE
6710D
This chapter contains important safety messages and provides instructions for inspecting and operating the grinder
through three phases of activity: getting started, running the grinder, and finishing up.
Getting Started
This topic provides instructions for getting ready to
operate the grinder.
To get ready to operate the grinder
(overview):
1.
Prepare the work site.
2.
Inspect the machine before startup.
3.
Set up the machine for operation.
4.
Start and warm up the machine.
Preparing the Work Site
Thoughtful design of the work site can improve produc-
tion and reduce risk of accidents.
Important
Positioning the machine on concrete or asphalt
greatly increases vibration.
To keep the machine operating efficiently, plan your
work site to include ample road access and turnaround.
Also plan for many trucks or for a large stacking area.
For additional information, see “Job Site Safety” on
page 49. Also, review “Operating and Hazard Zones”
on page 54.
Inspecting Before Startup
Before starting and operating a 6710D for the first time,
read and understand the entire Chapter 2 “Working
Safely” and this Chapter 3.
1
WARNING
Personal Injury Hazard.
Anyone not involved with operating the 6710D
should leave the area.
Do not allow anyone to work on or operate the
machine who does not know how to do so safely.
Failure to heed these instructions could result in
serious injury or death.
1
WARNING
Personal Injury Hazard.
Be sure the machine is locked out and tagged
out (LOTO) before inspecting the machine. For
instructions, see “Disconnect Lockout/Tagout”
on page 34.
To perform the pre-start inspection:
1.
Check the maintenance log if your company has
one for the machine. Look for any recent entries
about required service. Use this information to
decide whether the machine can be operated safely
at this time.
2.
Check fire suppression equipment:
•
Make sure the water tank is full. See “Water
Pump Sprayer” on page 46.
•
Make sure the sprayer reel and hose are not dam-
aged and are ready for use.
•
Check the fire extinguisher: make sure the extin-
guisher is properly installed on the machine and
fully functional. See “Fire Suppression Equip-
ment” on page 46.
