Ascotel is a comprehensive digital communications system for small and medium-
sized companies in all industries, with a subscriber number ranging between
7 and 200 subscribers. The core of the Ascotel telecommunications system is
made up of PBX platforms with different expansion capacities. The system con-
cept is modular, which means it can be expanded step by step, for example to
accommodate a greater number of subscribers or additional functions.
The PBX for Digital, Analogue, Public and Private Networks
Ascotel can be operated on digital (ISDN) and analogue public networks. Several
PBX nodes can be networked in different locations via fixed ISDN leased lines or,
virtually, via public switched lines. Ascotel is ideally compatible with systems by
other manufacturers as an international language (the QSIG protocol) is used
between the network nodes.
Open and Receptive
Ascotel systems are open communication platforms that use and support interna-
tionally defined standards. The observance of standards is a prerequisite for ensur-
ing that a switching system is able to communicate with terminals and equipment
by other manufacturers so that it can be seamlessly integrated into the customer's
existing communication structure.
Important standards supported by Ascotel include:
• DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telephony), the standard for making cordless
phone calls within companies
• QSIG (Unified International Corporate Network Signalling Standard), the pro-
tocol for networking PBXs of different manufacturers
• Microsoft TAPI (Telephony Application Programming Interface), the interface
for computer-supported telephony
• H. 323, an ITU umbrella standard for voice transmission over the networks
