Control Room, Nearfield and Studio
Monitors
The main monitor outputs,
Control Room
,
Nearfield
and
Studio
all share a common source
selection but each have their own level controls and mutes.
Control Room Monitor
Main Level
The control room monitor level knob controls a bank of
VCA
s (voltage
controlled amplifiers). This provides accurate tracking of speaker levels across
all outputs which is almost impossible to achieve by mechanical means and
allows more flexibility when working in multi-format modes.
For example, in
7.1
mode, the
NF1
nearfield speakers are adopted for speakers
7&8
and
VCA
level control is transferred from the nearfield level to the
control room level and reverted when changing to a different mode.
Normal operating range is infinity to +6dB. All other
Control Room
operations are performed on the short travel switches below the level control.
Mute & Dim
The
Master Mute
cuts all speaker outputs simultaneously. When
operated, the speaker mute switch LEDs illuminate dimly and go bright
when operated locally. Local mute conditions are preserved and restored
when using the
Master Mute
.
Dim
reduces all speaker output levels by –20dB as the factory standard.
Note: Dim
has a variable range and can be adjusted via an internal preset.
Nearfield Level
The
Nearfield Monitor Level
knob controls a pair of VCAs (voltage controlled amplifiers). This
arrangement allows the nearfield speakers to be adopted (in
7.1
mode only) for speakers
7&8
and VCA level control is transferred from the nearfield level to the control room level and
reverted when changing to a different mode.
Normal operating range is infinity to +6dB. All other nearfield operations are performed on the
short travel switches at the bottom right corner of the
M3
monitor module.
