Install the Stratix 5100 Wireless Access Point/Workgroup Bridge
Access Point Spacing Recommendation
If you have a Wi-Fi device such as a WAP and want to use another WAP in the
vicinity on a different channel, space the WAPs approximately six feet (two
meters) apart. This recommended distance is based on the assumption that both
devices operate in the unlicensed band and do not transmit RF energy more than
23 dB, that is, 200 mW. If higher power is used, space farther apart. Avoid
clustering the WAPs or the antennas from different WAPs together, because this
could degrade performance.
If you have other devices that transmit, follow these instructions.
1.
Move or separate the devices as far apart as reasonable.
This is especially important if they operate in the same frequency ranges; for
example, frequency hopping legacy WAPs or other devices operate just below or
above the 2.4 Ghz and 5 GHz band.
2.
Check for interference.
3.
Test both types of devices at the same time under heavy use (load).
4.
Characterize each system independently to see whether degradation exists.
Mounting an Access Point on a Hard Ceiling or a Wall
This procedure describes the steps required to mount the access point by using a
universal mounting bracket (AIR-AP-BRACKET-2) on a ceiling constructed of
19.05-mm (.75 in.) or thicker plywood using adequate fasteners.

Brackets and Clips
There are many different installation options available depending on your
requirements. Brackets are available from Cisco as well as third-party companies.
When ordering, you can choose either a low-profile or a universal bracket; both
are shown in Each bracket is a zero-dollar ($0) option at the time of
configuration.
The low-profile AIR-AP-BRACKET-1 (shipped with product), is the most
popular bracket for ceiling installations.
TIP
The access point performs best when the access point is mounted on horizontal
surfaces such as a table top or ceiling. For advanced features such as voice,
location, and rogue access point detection, ceiling mounting is strongly
recommended.
