The Presto Control can either be placed in the Auto or Manual mode during the milking of any cow.
To place the controls into either Auto/Manual mode, press the Auto/Manual switch.
Automatic Mode
When using the Presto Control in the automatic mode, it will be in the automatic detach mode. In
the auto detach mode the Presto Control responds to the detach flow rate to determine an end of
milking. The Presto Control will automatically detach of the milking unit.
Automatic Mode – Milk Let Down Delay
To allow enough time for you to attach the milking unit to a cow and to provide time for the cow to let
down her milk, the control features a Let-Down Delay. The delay normally lasts 1.5 minutes (90
seconds), but can be programmable for any time from 60 seconds to 210 seconds (see set-up
table). This override prevents the milking unit from detaching, whether milk is measured or not, from
the moment you activate the Attach/Detach switch to milk a cow until the delay ends.
During the milk let down delay period, whenever a high milk flow rate is sensed, the control registers
milk flow and the No Milk LEDs stop flashing. Anytime a low flow rate is calculated and after the
delay’s end, the control will detach. Depending on when the low rate occurs, the detach will be
“early” or “normal” and related events will differ accordingly.
Automatic Mode
– Early Detach, at end of Milk Let-Down Delay
A detach that occurs immediately after the Milk Let-Down delay ends is considered an early detach.
Upon early detach, the shifting valve shuts off the vacuum to the claw and then allows the detacher
cylinder to gently detach the milking unit from the cow. The No Milk LEDs will continue to flash
(indicating an early detach).
Flashing NO Milk LED’s ( after the detacher detaches) indicates an early detach. That is, the milking
unit has been attached to the cow for only the Milk Let-Down period.
Automatic Mode – Normal Detach
A normal detach is any detach that occurs after the point, when a below-minimum milk flow rate
exists long enough to activate the detacher to detach.
When a below detach flow rate is sensed, the detach delay will start (see set-up for options for
detach delay settings). The No Milk LEDs will flash for the duration of the detach delay period, or
until the milk flow level is sensed above the detach flow rate. If, by the end of the detach delay, the
cow does not resume a milk flow rate above the detach flow rate setting, the claw will be detached.
The No Milk LEDs remain constantly lit to indicate normal detach.
If normal detach occurs and the cow is not completely milked out, you may continue milking the cow
after detach by reattaching the milking unit to the cow (see “Reattach”).
Manual Mode
Manual Mode is an alternative mode that aids in keeping the milking unit attached when undesirable
detaches occur, or would otherwise occur. Manual mode does so by preventing the detach that
follows the detach delay in automatic mode. Use of the Manual mode may prove advantageous
when-ever you desire to milk the cow longer than automatic detach.
