5.6 Replacing the Super Capacitor Battery and
Flash Backup Module
Upgradeable/replaceable components are listed below.
 FBM: In the event of a power failure, the combination of supercap FBM
(non-volatile flash storage) can be used to store data indefinitely.
The supercapacitor battery and FBM can sustain and transfer cached data to a FBM
in the event of a power outage, or in the unlikely event of both PSUs failing.
The supercapacitor battery and FBM are optional items for single-controller system
by default.
5.6.1 Supercapacitor Battery Fault Conditions and Precautions
If a supercapacitor battery leaks, emits an unpleasant odor, generates heat, becomes
discolored or deformed, or in any way appears abnormal during use, recharging or,
storage, immediately remove it from the system and stop all use. Some conditions
that may trigger a supercapacitor battery fault are listed below.
 The temperature sensor on the system charger circuit reports a temperature
that exceeds the pre-set threshold. The charger circuits will enter a low-power
and self-protection state.
 A supercapacitor battery module has been charged for over 12 hours. A timer is
embedded with the charger. When this occurs, the charger will enter a timer
fault state. Charging will resume automatically after the supercapacitor battery
module is removed/reinstalled or the system is reset.
Adhere to the following precautions when installing the supercapacitor battery.

Use the replacement supercapacitor battery supplied by your distributor. Use of
battery cells otherwise provided will void your warranty.
 Dispose of used supercapacitor batteries at authorized battery disposal sites
only.

Do not place a supercapacitor battery near a heat source.
 Do not immerse the supercapacitor battery in water or expose it to liquids.
 Do not disassemble or modify the supercapacitor battery.
 Do not pierce with a sharp object, strike with a hammer, exert pressure on, or
throw the supercapacitor battery.
Warning! Ensure that the replacement module(s) is on hand before attempting the
replacement procedure.
Ensure that the FBM is installed before installing the supercapacitor bat-
tery. Please refer to Installing the BBU.
