Copying a Release File to the Switch

The next step in upgrading software is to copy the new release file to the switch. From
priv-exec mode, use the

copy

command to copy a release file from an FTP site to the

releases directory:

copy ftp://[

username

password

ftp-site

file

releases

dest-file

where

username

password

(optional) is an FTP username and password (the

default is the username/password set by the

ip ftp-user

command; see

“Setting a Default FTP User” on page 3-1

ftp-site

identifies the FTP server with an IP address or FQDN (for example,

“172.16.88.3” or “ftp.myftpsite.com”),

file

is the chosen file name (lead with two slashes (

ftp-site

file

) if the file

path is absolute),

releases

is the directory, and

dest-file

is the local-release-file name.

For example, the following command sequence copies a release file from
ftp.acopia.com, then uses

show releases

to confirm that the file was copied:
