Mapping Client Requests to Back-End Paths

Many restore operations are invoked by client requests. The client requests a file or
directory to be restored and the point-in-time for the desired file or directory. The
client expresses the file share and path from the perspective of the front-end service
that he or she uses. You must translate this virtual path into a physical path, so that
you can find the location of the backed-up file(s). From priv-exec mode, you can use
the

export-mapping

command to create a report for this. The report maps all front-end

shares to physical paths on back-end filers:

export-mapping [outputfile

report-name

] [nfs | cifs]

where

outputfile

report-name

(optional; 5-128 characters) specifies a unique

report name. The default report name is “export-mapping.rpt.” Use

show

reports

to see the file listing; use

show

,

tail

, or

grep

to read the file.

nfs | cifs

(optional) narrows the report to servers that support the given

protocol (NFS or CIFS).

The export-mapping report contains three sections: the first shows all front-end
FQDNs and IP addresses, the second is a list of all back-end filers and their IP
addresses, and the final table is a map of all front-end exports to back-end paths. You
can use the first two tables to find the IP addresses for the servers in the last table.

For example, the following command sequence generates an export-mapping report
and shows it:
