36 CPCI-7806/CPCI-7806RC Pentium/Celeron M Universal CompactPCI Single Board Computer

2.7  Ethernet Controller

The network capability is provided by the Intel 82546EB Ethernet Controller for 
the non-RoHS version of the product (CPCI-7806) and the Intel 82546GB Ethernet 
Controller for the RoHS version of the product (CPCI-7806RC). This Ethernet 
controller is PCI bus based and is software configurable. The CPCI-7806/
CPCI-7806RC support 10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T Dual Channel 
Ethernet.

10BASE-T

A network based on the 10BASE-T standard uses unshielded twisted-pair cables, 
providing an economical solution to networking by allowing the use of existing 
telephone wiring and connectors. The RJ45 connector is used with the 10BASE-T 
standard. 10BASE-T has a maximum length of 100 meters.

100BASE-TX

The CPCI-7806/CPCI-7806RC also support the 100BASE-TX Ethernet. A network 
based on a 100BASE-TX standard uses unshielded twisted-pair cables and a RJ45 
connector. 100BASE-TX has a maximum length of 100 meters.

1000BASE-T

The CPCI-7806/CPCI-7806RC also support 1000BASE-T Ethernet. This standard 
uses shielded cables with four pairs of conductors, along with RJ45 connectors.

NOTE

Selection of Ethernet routing to the front panel RJ45 connectors or to the CompactPCI J3 per PICMG 

2.16 is in the BIOS CMOS chipset selection.

NOTE

Ethernet activity is noted on the front panel LEDs by a blinking yellow LED. The yellow LED will be on 

continuously when the Ethernet port is linked but with no activity.
