5.1.2.6 To configure the starting mode for i7xx sets
The starting mode of the i7xx sets requires prior knowledge of the site network.
The various starting modes available are:
• Manual,
• Partial DHCP mode,
• Full DHCP mode.
Manual mode
All identification parameters related to network configuration must be provided by the site operator.
The installer must then manually enter these specific parameters for each i7xx set in Manual
Mode.
Partial and full DHCP modes
DHCP protocol ( Dynamic Host connexion Protocol ) can be used to dynamically allocate (i.e.
without specific intervention) the network configuration to the i7xx set.
The DHCP server automatically provides each i7xx set with the IP parameters that the site
operator allocated to it, the first time it is connected.
Partial DHCP mode uses standardised options that are available on Windows NT, 2000 or 2003
servers.
Full DHCP mode requires a specific option "Specific supplier information" that is associated to the
"class identification" option. This option is only supported in Windows 2000.
i7xx sets (i740, i740N, i760 and i780) support these two DHCP modes.
In partial DHCP mode, the DHCP server provides the following parameters:
• Set IP address,
• Subnet mask,
• Gateway IP address.
In full DHCP mode (set's default mode), the server also provides the following parameters:
• 1st IP address of Call Server or main PBX,
• 2

IP address of Call Server or main PBX (i7xx set as of set software release R5.2A): optional
parameter.
• IP address and port number of the downloading server,
• The VLAN mode, VLAN ID and priority.
A sample configuration of i7xx sets by DHCP server is appended to this document.
