2 Setting Preferred_Server Properties
Edit the
Preferred_Server
property of the
local_server.properties
on each server to specify which server in the Server Failover system you
would prefer to be the Active server on startup. It does this by listening
for the remote server connection early in its startup sequence, thereby
forcing a remote server (started at approximately the same time) into
Dormant mode. Note, however, that if the remote server is already
running in Active mode, the server you start, even if it is marked as the
preferred server will still start in Dormant mode
Set the
Preferred_Server
property to either
yes
or
no
. When
Preferred_Server
is set to
yes
the server starts listening for
connections
before
trying to contact its remote server specified in the
Remote_Server
property in
local_server.properties
. If the
Preferred_Server
property is not set, its value is assumed to be
no
.
3 Setting the Retry and Timeout for EMS Startup
When deciding the settings for retry and timeout it is important to be
aware that the higher the setting you define for retry and timeout the
more resilient the system is to transient network failures. However, server
failover will take longer to occur while the Dormant server retries its
connection, waiting for the necessary timeout between retries.
Edit retry and timeout settings in the
Remote_Server_Retries
and
Remote_Server_Timeout
properties. These can be set so EMS will retry
the connection the specified number of times as set in
Remote_Server_Retries
, with a pause of ‘timeout’ seconds as set in
Remote_Server_Timeout
between each try. If these properties are not
set, EMS uses 4 retries by default, and a timeout of 5 seconds
between each retry.
If retries are required, the EMS server displays this message on the
command line for each retry:
Server Failover: Retry <x> of <y>…
