This section summarizes the key concepts and terminology used in Server
Failover.

Remote Server

At startup, neither EMS server knows whether it will run in Active or
Dormant mode. The run mode is determined by the server's ability to
connect to its remote server. If a connection can be made to the
remote server, the server puts itself into Dormant mode.
