Work with Granular Pads
The final pad mode is granular mode. Granular is similar to sample mode, but with the
additional ability to use multiple grains when playing back your sample. You can use
granular to facilitate loop cross fading and to generate new sounds from your samples. In
this mode, the sample is played back in small portions about 10 to 200ms in length, called
grains. You can control the size, count, spread and playback speed of the grains.
Pad Parameters Specific to Granular Mode
Granular pads support the same parameters as sample pads, except for Loop Fade. They
also use the following additional parameters:

Grain Size
The size of the small segments of the WAV file that
will be played.
0%
to
100%
, which is
about 20ms to about 1
second.
No
Density
Controls the number of grains per second. At the
lowest end, you will get about 1 grain every few
seconds. At 50%, you will get 3 grains with some
overlap. Above 50% there is constant overlap that
becomes more pronounced.
0%

100%
,. Keep in
mind that more grains
require more processor
power.
No
Scatter
When density is less than 50%, scatter controls how
evenly the grains are distributed over time. When
density is above 50%, scatter has no impact.

100%

No
Speed
How quickly the playback of the grains advances
through the source WAV file. At 100% it will sound
most like the original file. At 50% it will be half speed.
At 200%, it will progress through the WAV file at
twice the original rate. At 0%, it will keep playing the
same spot in the WAV file.

Window
The length of file on either side of the current
playback position from which the grains are selected.
When set to 0%, the grains are always pulled from
the same place in the WAV file. When set to 100%,
the grains are pulled from a window of about a few
seconds around the current playback position.

Pan Rnd
Controls how widely the sound is spread apart across
the left and right speakers. This controls how far
apart the grains sound.
