C. NETWORK INTERCONNECTION
This appendix is made up of tables demonstrating the allowable IEEE networking
interconnection specifications described in Appendix B. It compares the different forms
of media that can be used in the network cabling structure. These media types are thin
coax, thick coax, twisted-pair wiring, and fiber optic cable.
Refer to the following figure "
Sample Network Solution Diagram
" for a diagram of a
complete network solution that connects together three buildings, including one with
three floors. It is impractical to show all of the possible interconnecting schemes in one
figure because so many networking devices are available. The purpose of the figure is
to illustrate that there are many different interconnection possibilities available.
There can be large cost differences between interconnection solutions using the
different media. Special installation tools may also be required for implementing the
chosen method. Time and care should be taken to choose the right medium for your
application.
