FURTHER INFORMATION
You can obtain further information on IEEE 802.3 and debugging techniques from the
following sources:
IEEE 802.3
IEEE 802.3 Local Area Networks Standard is available from the
Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Inc., 445 Hoes
Lane, P. O. Box 1331, Piscataway, NJ 08855-1331, USA. This is a
comprehensive standard encompassing several media types and
techniques for signal rates. It was released for 10 Mb/s baseband
implementation. The Media Access Control (MAC) sublayer of the
Data Link Layer and the Physical Layers are described. These
layers correspond closely to the lowest layer of the International
Standards Organization (ISO) Model for Open System
Interconnection (OSI).
Debugging
Several troubleshooting techniques are described in the August,
1989 edition of
LAN Technology by M&T Publishing Inc., 501
Galveston Drive, Redwood City, CA 94063, USA. The differences
between Ethernet and IEEE 802.3 are covered. The CSMA/CD
protocol, physical characteristics, and software considerations are
also described.
NS Data Sheet
Refer to National Semiconductor's 1993 or later edition of their
"Local Area Networks Databook" for detailed information on the
DP83905 Network Interface Controller, its registers and
programming techniques.
