drive chain, and rear w heel, m easure the
drive chain slack and the length of a ten-
link section of the drive chain.

REM OVING THE SWINGARM

1. Stand the m otorcycle on a level surface.

WARNING

WARNING

Securely support the motorcycle so that
there is no danger of it falling over.

NOTE:

Place the m otorcycle on a suitable stand
so that the rear w heel is elevated.

2. M easure:

• sw ingarm  side play
• sw ingarm  vertical m ovem ent

a. M easure the tightening torque of the

pivot shaft nut.

b. M easure the sw ingarm  side play

by m oving the sw ingarm  from  side to
side.

c. If the sw ingarm  side play is out of

specification, check the spacers, bear-
ings, w ashers, and dust covers.

d. Check the sw ingarm  vertical m ove-

m ent 

ı

 by m oving the sw ingarm  up

and dow n.

If sw ingarm  vertical m ovem ent is not
sm ooth or if there is binding, check the
spacers, bearings, w ashers, and dust
covers.
