Drive shaft and lower case (counter rotation model)

4. Install the needle bearing and water inlet
covers. See steps 4 and 5 in “Assembling
the lower case” (8-24).
Assembling the drive shaft housing

Installing the reverse gear
1. Install the thrust bearing “1” and reverse
gear “2”.
Installing the drive shaft

Installing the propeller shaft housing
assembly
1. Install the original forward gear shims “1”,
propeller shaft housing “2”, and key “3”.
2. Install the claw washer and ring nut. See
steps 3–5 in “Installing the propeller shaft
housing assembly” (8-26).
Installing the shift rod
1. Install the plate to the shift rod. See steps
1 and 2 in “Installing the shift rod” (8-27).
2. Install the shift rod “1”.
TIP:
Make sure to install the shift rod “1” in the
proper orientation. Installation orientation is
different between the counter rotation model
and the regular rotation model.

1. Install the lower unit, trim tab, and propel-
