Lower unit
Checking the propeller shaft
1. Check the each propeller shaft. Replace
if bent or worm the spline.
2. Measure the propeller shaft runout.
3. Check the dog clutch, shift rod joint, and
slider. Replace if cracked or worn.
Assembling the forward gear
1. Install the new needle bearing into the
forward gear to the specified depth.
6. Remove the oil seals and needle bearing.
Disassembling the forward gear
1. Remove the needle bearing and bushing
from the forward gear using the chisel.

Do not reuse the bearing, always replace
it with a new one.
Checking the propeller shaft
housing
1. Clean the propeller shaft housing using a
soft brush and cleaning solvent, and then
check it. Replace if cracked or damaged.
2. Check the bearings. Replace if pitted or if
there is rumbling.
