Figure 21: Three pump alternation system
Cleaning
Blockage
This function cleans the pump from rags and similar solids. Blockage is detected as a
special instance of pump over current. When a full blockage event has been confirmed, a
cleaning cycle is initiated to clear the blockage. Once the blockage is cleared, the drive
returns to its previous state automatically. If the clogging is severe, the cleaning cycle is
retried 23 times before the drive trips and alarms the user, if configured.
The function is enabled or disabled in the P1-17:Pump cleaning settings parameter.
Partial clogging
This function cleans the pump from slowly accumulated fibers and small solids. N-
impellers do not suffer from partial clogging, but the feature can be advantageous if other
hydraulics are used temporarily, for example during service of a pump. The function is
current triggered and is initiated when the steady state current exceeds a certain
threshold during a period of time. The partial clog function can also be triggered by a
user adjustable timer if periodic cleaning is desired. Once the cleaning sequence is
completed, the drive returns to its previous state automatically.
The function is enabled or disabled in the P1-17:Pump cleaning settings parameter.
Flush valve
This function enables the pump to run on the maximum frequency for a pre-set time on
each start. The function is enabled or disabled in the P4-14:Max freq start run time
parameter. The default pre-set time value is 5 seconds. If flush valves are used, then this
time must be set to the time it takes for the flush valve to reach closing pressure.
Sump cleaning
This function cleans the sump by pumping down the water level until the pump snores.
The Sump cleaning timeout factor, see P4-16:Sump cleaning time out, is calculated using
known information about water level and level reduction rate during pumping. The
default value keeps the pump operating for four times the time that is expected to achieve
snoring, but can be adjusted if this should be too long for a particular application.
The snoring sensitivity factor, see P4-19:Snoring sensitivity, can be modified to tailor the
sump cleaning function to better suit a particular application, mainly by keeping the pump
from snoring too long. The parameter adjusts the intensity of the snoring that is required
to trigger a snoring event (that ends the pump cleaning cycle); 0 corresponds to never
triggering a snoring event whereas 100 will cause the event to be active at all times.
The function is enabled or disabled in the P6-13:Sump/pipe cleaning setting parameter.
