5.
Close and secure the compartment lid.
6.
Press the START button to begin the wash cycle. The WASH indicator
lights. Following the wash cycle, the DRY indicator lights and the dry
cycle begins. (The entire process will take approximately 50 minutes.)
7.
When the dry cycle is complete (the DRY indicator goes out), open the
washer/dryer compartment lid and remove the printhead from the unit.
The printhead may be hot. Use caution when removing.
The black heating platen may be hot. Do not touch.
Installing the
Printhead
When the printhead appears to be clean, install it as follows:
1.
Hold the printhead by the handle, with the contact side down.
2.
Position the end of the printhead at the opening at the front of the print
engine, then slide the printhead into the print engine. It will pass over
several glide rollers, then come to a stop when it reaches the back of the
print engine.
For print engine 1, a printhead with a single-dot spacer at
the end is inserted into the print engine first. For print
engine 2, a printhead with a double-dot spacer end is
inserted into the print engine first.
3.
Hold the printhead firmly positioned against the back of the print engine,
slowly rotate the locking lever clockwise 180°, until it stops in the locked
position, to secure the printhead in place.
4.
Close the print engine doors and restart the printing system.
5.
Run a test pattern and adjust the back bias voltage (contrast) accordingly.

Cleaning the Erase Rod
The erase rod requires cleaning daily or when a problem surfaces that is
related to a dirty erase rod.
Removing the Erase
Rod
1.
Stop the printing system and open the print engine doors. This will turn off
the voltage to the erase rod assemblies, eliminating the possibility of
electrical shock.
2.
Disconnect the 5-pin power connector at the right (back) side of the erase
rod holder. To do this, squeeze the locking tabs on the outside of the
connector, then pull it away from the white holder.
The erase rod operates at an extremely high voltage.
Make sure to remove this power connector before
proceeding.
3.
Grasping the holder in the center, lift the erase assembly away from the
imaging drum.
This exposes the fine wires wrapped around the erase
rod. These are fragile, and should not be handled except
for cleaning. If one of these wires breaks, the erase rod
can no longer be used.
4.
Place the erase assembly on a flat surface, with the erase rod facing you.
The copper erase wire contact clip should be on your left.
5.
Inspect the erase wires for breaks. If damaged, the erase rod should be
replaced. Refer to the procedure, “Replacing the Erase Rod,” in Chapter 3.
