Paper Management
This section contains procedures for managing the paper movement through
the printing processes. These include:
Loading the large roll unwinder
Webbing the printing system
Eliminating paper wrinkles or creases
Loading the Large Roll Unwinder
Replacing the paper roll is necessary when the roll is exhausted or special
paper is requested by a print job.
Unload the Old
Paper Roll Core
1.
Stop the printing system.
2.
At the large roll unwinder, set the power/brake switch to OFF.
3.
Unload a section of paper (8-10 feet [2.4-3 meters]) and cut off the
trailing edge of the old roll of paper.
4.
Drape the extra portion of the web over the unwind steering mechanism
spindle.
5.
Unscrew the unwind hold down clamp and slide it out of position.

6.
Raise the carriage arms until they touch the airshaft. Slide the airshaft to
the front of the unwinder to clear the drive mechanism. Roll the airshaft to
the end of the carriage arms and lower.
7.
Release the compressed air from the bladder by depressing valve of air
shaft with finger.
8.
Remove the air shaft assembly (with bladder) from the paper core and
discard the paper core.
Prepare New
Paper Roll
1.
Make sure the paper is the correct type for the print job and remove paper
ties which secure paper to skid.
If a different width, from the previous width of paper is
being used, have the appropriate trim blade installed.
2.
Position the paper roll so that it unwinds from the top and rotates
clockwise.
3.
Position the cart in front of paper roll so that the roll is in the proper
rotation at the unwinder.
4.
Lock the brake on the cart to prevent movement and roll the paper onto
the cart.
5.
Remove the cart brake and roll the cart into position at the unwinder.
Load the Paper Roll
1.
Insert the air shaft into the paper roll core, and align to the positioning
(red) index mark.
2.
Expand the bladder of the air shaft using the air gun at the front left side
of the unwinder as follows:
a.
Push the air nozzle firmly into the air valve of the air shaft. This
action will depress both the valve button and the tip of the air gun.
b.
Hold the nozzle in place until the line pressure air gauge indicates 80
psi (5.6 bar) or over.
In no case should the shaft be operated with less than 80 psi (5.6 bar).
3.
Raise the carriage arms. The paper will roll and fall into a cradle.
4.
Slide the paper unwind hold down clamp and tighten the locking arm.
5.
Align the unwind spindle pin with the brake mechanism slot. (The
unwind spindle shaft goes into brake mechanism slot.)
6.
Press the ram pedal to slide the paper roll into the brake mechanism slot.
