Roll to Fan Fold
(Plain Paper In)
Rolls of plain or preprinted stock are printed and fused. The output pacer is
used to establish the necessary web tension from the radiant fuser to the
registration unit. The web is taken from the registration unit to the perforator/
punch processor which perforates the web to facilitate folding. The output is
then folded and placed in the output conveyor.
Roll to Fan Fold
(Pinfeed Paper In)
Unlike the previous configuration, rolls of pinfeed, perforated stock are
loaded onto the unwinder. The output pacer is used to establish the necessary
web tension from the radiant fuser to the fan folder. The web then feeds into
the fan folder where the output is folded and placed in the output conveyor.

The Printing Process
The print engines use the Electron Beam Imaging (EBI) printing process. Its
distinguishing characteristic is that the charged image (known as a latent
image) is directly formed by projecting electrons onto an insulating surface
from a printhead. This electrically driven technique allows for very high-
speed printing on a roll of paper.
The printing process involves the print engine components shown below.
These components are described in more depth in Chapter 2 of this manual.
The printing process involves these following steps:
1.
Generate latent image on the imaging drum
2.
Apply toner
3.
Transfix the image
4.
Clean off any excess toner
5.
Remove any residual charge
