Install the seachest next to the keel.
A seachest installed too far from the keel
will have reduced performance because it
will be subject to turbulence and air bubbles.
Also, the keel will block the soundbeam as
the vessel rolls. Next to the keel is the most
effective location.
If the seachest cannot be installed next to the
keel, then install it at least 30cm (12 inches)
from the keel.
2.0 SEACHEST LENGTH
The minimum seachest lengths for the follow-
ing SS590 sonars with standard hoists are:

If the top of the seachest rises above the
waterline, then the soundome can be re·
moved while the vessel is in the water. For
the top of the seachest to be above the water
line, the seachest must be at least as long as
vessel draft plus 5cm (2 inches).
Measure the draft where the seachest is to
be installed, taking into account the effect
of fully loading the vessel.
3.0 SEACHEST DIAMETER
CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SOUNDOME OR
SOUNDOME SUPPORTS AND THE INSIDE
WALL OF THE SEACREST MUST NOT BE
GREATER THAN 1.6mm (1/16
inch).
The thickness of your seachest wall may
vary, but the inner diameter should match
that given on Pages 2-8 through 2-10. Cor-
rect inside clearance will prevent vibration
of the soundome and improve sonar perfor-
mance.
