Disassembly and Repair of the Handle
The repair 'TASK' procedures (R&R...Removal and Replacement) are written to provide quick and easy
reference for different experience levels of repair technician. Required specifications and materials are
listed at each step where applicable. For example:
Instructions will start off with a 'TASK, TO DO." For example – B.3. "Unplug Flex Circuit"
statement. This will be followed by a "TECHNIQUE, HOW TO DO" statement. Follow these steps to
perform the task. – "Grasp pump assembly flex circuit with pin straightening pliers."
NOTE: WEAR ESD WRIST STRAP WHILE PERFORMING THE FOLLOWING
OPERATIONS.

CIRCUIT BOARD:

1. REMOVE BATTERY COVER.
REMOVE THE SCREW THAT HOLDS THE BATTERY COVER ON.
REMOVE THE COVER.

2. REMOVE PATIENT SIDE HOUSING HALF.
REMOVE THE WELCH ALLYN LOGO LABEL LOCATED ON THE
PATIENT SIDE BY SLIDING A PAIR OF TWEEZERS UNDER THE LABEL
AND LIFT OFF OLD LABEL. UNSCREW TWO PHILLIPS HEAD SCREWS
WITH A P12S XCELITE SCREWDRIVER OR EQUIVALENT.
VERY IMPORTANT PROCEDURE...READ AND UNDERSTAND:
CAUTION: PERFORM THE FOLLOWING WITH CARE. CHECK FOR PULLING
AND TEARING OF THE FLEX CIRCUIT AS YOU GENTLY REMOVE THE PATIENT
SIDE COVER. AVOID HAVING TO REPLACE A FLEX CIRCUIT BY WORKING
CAREFULLY.
TWO TABS (ONE ON EACH SIDE OF THE HOUSING) HAVE BLACK MAX
ADHESIVE ON THEM TO HOLD THE PATIENT-SIDE HOUSING TIGHTLY TO
THE HANDLE. TO BREAK THE BLACK MAX ADHESIVE BOND, INSERT THE
TIP OF A 1/16" FLAT BLADE SCREWDRIVER INTO THE HANDLE (SEE FIG-
URE. 4.2) AND GENTLY TWIST THE SCREWDRIVER TO BREAK THE ADHE-
SIVE BOND BETWEEN THE 2 TABS AND THE PATIENT SIDE HOUSING. DO
NOT PRY CASES APART.
