1.0 I NT R ODUCT I ON
Th i s append i x conta i ns the Remote M&C protoco l for the 7 2 0 0 GPIB (IEEE-4 8 8)
i nterface. It i s prov i ded to ass i st i n the setup of remote commun i cat i ons w i th the
7 2 0 0 A C U. The command li ne-or i ented protoco l and command set for the 7 2 0 0
A C U’s remote M&C she ll are both d i scussed.
There are no GPIB commun i cat i on parameters that may be set by the user.
The command li ne i nterface i s des i gned to be used i n con j unct i on w i th an M&C
computer, not by operators d i rect l y. A l though the command set i s a ll i n pr i ntab l e
A SCII, i t i s not des i gned to be user-fr i end l y. In order to s i mp li fy the M&C
programmer’s j ob, the command set w as wr i tten to be as cons i stent and un i form as
poss i b l e.

2.0 I N P UT ECHO AND L I NE ED I T I NG
GPIB transact i ons are performed w i thout echo. Backspace and escape are not
supported on the GPIB i nterface.
3.0 R EQUEST/COMMAND P R OTOCO L
T w o types of commun i cat i on w i th the 7 2 0 0 are a ll o w ed: requests and commands. .
A ny remote port may execute a request at any t i me. Sect i on 5 li sts a ll requests and
commands, i nc l ud i ng the respect i ve funct i on, system response, and requ i red secur i ty
l eve l .
The secur i ty l eve l must be set to at l east Operator l eve l ( l eve l 2) before the M&C
i nterface w ill accept commands. Some commands cannot be executed w i thout
Superv i sor secur i ty l eve l ( l eve l 3). Refer to Sect i on 4.5 for deta il s.
