Requests/Commands are entered i n the format [R or C]n [parameters] (EOI) w here:
R and C are uppercase A SCII characters (R = A SCII 8 2, C = A SCII 6 7).
There i s no space bet w een R or C and the number n.
n i s a number i n A SCII; n i s one to three dec i ma l d i g i ts (0-9 9 9, i nc l us i ve).
Lead i ng 0’s are perm i tted (Examp l e: R1, R0 1, and R0 0 1 are a ll va li d).
[parameters] are zero or more space-separated A SCII str i ngs that are spec i f i c
to the Request/Command.
(EOI) i s the GPIB EOI (End or Ident i fy). No carr i age return fo ll o w s the
command.
On the GPIB i nterface, (ne w li ne) i s a l w ays CRLF (A SCII 1 3 p l us A SCII 1 0).
The response from a request or command i s a l w ays i n the form:

The [data] f i e l d i s Request/Command-spec i f i c. Data may or may not be
returned, depend i ng on the Request/Command. The data i s term i nated by a
ne w li ne, w h i ch cons i sts of CR (A SCII 1 3) and an opt i ona l LF (A SCII 1 0).
There may be more than one li ne of data, depend i ng on the Request/Command.
The M&C response w ill a l w ays term i nate w i th a ne w li ne, fo ll o w ed by three
A SCII d i g i ts " nnn, " fo ll o w ed by a " > " (A SCII 6 2). " nnn " i s an error code, and
" 0 0 0 " i nd i cates that the Request/Command w as acceptab l e (no syntax errors)
and w as processed w i thout errors.
Examp l e: R0 i s a " noop " (no-operat i on). It returns on l y a " 0 0 0 " error code.

The M&C i nterface w ill a l w ays return responses as soon as poss i b l e, a ll o w i ng the
remote contro ll er to i ssue another Request/Command. Some operat i ons, such as
resett i ng the dr i ve cab i net, may take severa l seconds. Such operat i ons w ill be
executed i n background mode and w ill not be comp l eted by the t i me the response i s
sent back to the remote computer.
A fter send i ng a Request/Command, the remote computer must w a i t for the " nnn > "
prompt before send i ng the next Request/Command, or i t may be i gnored by the M&C
i nterface.
If the 7 2 0 0 i s reset, or port conf i gurat i ons have changed, an i nterface c l ear (IF C)
needs to be sent by the contro ll er i n charge (CIC).
