3 Ch eck th e vacu u m b etween EGR valve an d VSV fo r EGR at 3,500 rp m.
PREPARATION:
(a)
Using a 3--way connector, connect a vacuum gauge to the
hose between VSV and EGR valve.
(b)
Warm up the engine to above 80
˚
C (176
˚
F).
(c)
Disconnect the vacuum hose from port R of EGR vacuum
modulator and connect port R directly to the intake man-
ifold with another hose.
CHE CK:
Check the vacuum at 3,500rpm.

Type I
Replace EGR vacuum modulator.
Ty pe II Go to step 4.
Type III
Check the EGR valve, and repair or replace
EGR valve.

PREPARATION:
Select the ACTIVE TEST mode on the hand--held tester.
CHE CK:
Check operation of VSV, when it is operated by the hand--held
tester.
OK:
EGR system is OFF:
Air from pipe E is flowing out through air filter.
EGR system is ON:
Air from pipe E is flowing out through pipe G.
OK
Check the connection, damage and blockage of
vacuum hose.
